In our RE session on Friday, I told the children the story of the poppy. We talked sensitively about soldiers who fought in World War 1 and how people wear poppies to remember the fallen. The children shared their experiences and knowledge of poppies, many having bought one from school. We then spent the afternoon making paper poppies and contributed to a giant poppy made from red handprints which we will showcase in the school hall.

I was touched how the children responded and showed a great interest when learning about Remembrance Day and the history around it; some children were able to talk about great grandparents who had died in the war. A very proud teacher moment I can tell you.

Keep checking our daily tweets to see the work we will be doing this week towards our showcase display.
