infant olympics and more!

Year one have worked very hard in their first week back! We have started to look at the features of non chronological reports across a range of different non fiction books. We also had fun in PE this week learning about mapping skills through orienteering and developing our throwing skills in athletics. Don’t forget to come along and join us for our infant Olympics this Tuesday 10th June at 1.45, could you please ensure your child has their PE kit in school and some trainers. The children will be given drinks during the afternoon and will go home at normal time. I look forward to seeing you all there! Information about our school trip will be also be sent out next week.

Thanks

Y1 Homework

Following feedback from parents, homework has changed slightly. Your child’s black homework book will be sent home next Friday ( 23rd May) the children will now have two weeks to complete it returning it on a Thursday as normal. Reading books have been reduced to two a week rather than three. Please encourage your child to read their reading books at home in order to develop confidence and fluency.  Updated spelling lists will still be sent every term, any practice at home with these words using look, cover, write and check method would benefit your child and their writing. Bug club is an on-going optional reading resource set at your childs level, the children also access this in school. My Maths will also be set every two weeks.

If you have any queries about homework please come and see me.

Many thank

Miss Dooley

Super assembly!

Thank you to everyone who came to our class assembly this week, we had a fabulous time and I am sure you are as proud of your children as I am, what a great performance! The children are enjoying our new enquiry so far and have shown lots of interest, I am looking forward to seeing their homework about seaside holidays next week! If you have any recent photos of seaside holidays of your children could you please send these in for show and tell next week (Thursday 15th May) I have been impressed by the range of things children have been bringing in for show and tell related to our enquiries or things they have made or achieved.

We have another exciting week next week in Science where we will be planting some beans and thinking about the different parts of a plant. We will also be applying our own ideas to create a recount of a journey from another country back to England as part of our current literacy genre. Keep up the hard work Year 1 well done!

Whole school Art enquiry

On Monday we will begin our whole school art enquiry looking at still life art work. The focus of this enquiry is to develop the children’s drawing skills. We will carry out some art appreciation looking a range of artists work and discussing likes and dislikes. We will also use a range of different drawing equipment and the children will be encouraged to look at the shapes and lines they can see on an object in order to draw it. We will also be having a visit from an artist from the local art society where the children will have the opportunity to ask questions about art and gain some knowledge about drawing skills.

I will be asking for an object for your child to draw for their final piece of art work to be sent in next week. I would like this object to be something that represents their personality, I’m sure the children will bring in some very interesting objects!

I would also like to welcome Miss Renton our teaching student to Year 1. Miss Renton will be working alongside myself over the next ten weeks.
