The children have had a lovely afternoon decorating the classroom with tinsel, bells and a christmas tree!

Starting next week, we will have a Christmas activity each day to lead us up to the holidays, starting with C for Christmas-make some cakes !

I just hope nobody visits our classroom whilst we are not here….

Music, movement and lots of spots!!!

Every Monday, Reception enjoy a ‘Music and Movement’ session. We move in a variety of ways to different music, using lots of actions and body parts. The children learn about keeping healthy by exercising and using lots of movement!  A fun part of every week!

Have a look at some of the clips below to see the children during one of the activities-‘keeping a body part on your spot’!

A time to remember!

In our RE session on Friday, I told the children the story of the poppy. We talked sensitively about soldiers who fought in World War 1 and how people wear poppies to remember the fallen. The children shared their experiences and knowledge of poppies, many having bought one from school. We then spent the afternoon making paper poppies and contributed to a giant poppy made from red handprints which we will showcase in the school hall.

I was touched how the children responded and showed a great interest when learning about Remembrance Day and the history around it; some children were able to talk about great grandparents who had died in the war. A very proud teacher moment I can tell you.

Keep checking our daily tweets to see the work we will be doing this week towards our showcase display.

Reception help in the community!

The children spent Friday dressing up as people who help us in our community. They talked about what jobs they would like when they are older and they created little scenarios, using language to recreate roles and experiences.

A nurse visits Reception!

On Tuesday afternoon, we had a very special visitor; Nurse Michelle came to speak the children about her job role. The children then asked her questions about how she cared for her patients and Nurse Michelle showed us some equipment that she brought with her from the hospital.  The children then showed Nurse Michelle our role play hospital, where she bandaged children’s ‘pretend injuries’.

The children had a wonderful afternoon. What a fabulous experience!

Poor Bob!!!

Our new topic is ‘People who help in the community’. Our role play area has transformed into a hospital and the children have been dressing up today as doctors, nurses and patients. One poor patient, ‘Bob’ had a poorly leg so the children made him some get well cards to make him feel better. How very thoughful!

Tomorrow, we are having a visit from a nurse. The nurse will be telling us about the different jobs she has to do in the hospital she works in and the children will be encouraged to ask her lots of questions. How exciting!
