Super Stitching!

Year 3 have had a very busy first week back! We have enjoyed designing and making our own superhero puppets. The children worked extremely hard to follow their ideas to ensure that their design matched their finished puppet. The children persevered when having to stitch their fabric together and to attach the extra details. Overall, I was very impressed with the children’s attitude and commitment towards their work. Photographs of the children’s finished designs are to follow.

This week we will be using our puppets to write an adventure story about a superhero who saves the day!

Superhero Projects

Welcome back! I hope you have all enjoyed your half term break and are looking forward to the term ahead. This week we will be looking at the children’s superhero projects and will create our own characters within Literacy. We will also be designing and making superhero puppets, ready to use within our story writing sessions the following week.  I have told the children that if they have any superhero costumes at home, and they have asked permission, then they are welcome to bring them into school this week to use in our role play. Just a reminder, we are practising week 1 spellings on the spellings log sheet.  I look forward to seeing you all!

Please sir, can I have some more?

We have had another fun filled week in Year 3!

We have been learning about what life would have been like in a Victorian workhouse.  To help us to do this, we watched clips from the film Oliver Twist and discussed a variety of images from the past.  Finally, we gathered facts and information within small groups and presented our findings back to the class.  I also enjoyed reading the children’s homework surrounding Charles Dickens and Oliver Twist.

The children have also produced some fantastic sequences within gymnastics, where we focused on the beat and timing of each part of our sequence.  Each and every sequence is fantastic!

Mrs Geelan and I are also delighted with the children’s progress within our recorder sessions, keep it up Year 3!

Our Week in Year 3

We have had another fantastic week in Year 3! The children have really enjoyed experiencing life as a Victorian child. We have shared images of rich and poor children, Victorian settings and discussed life as a child worker.  Today we wrote a diary from the perspective of a poor Victorian child and included some super character descriptions and feelings. I am very pleased Year 3!  This week we are looking at Victorian life through the eyes of Oliver Twist…

The Victorians

Within our classroom we are setting up a Victorian role play area for the children to experience life as a Victorian child. If you have any clothes at home which you think would be appropriate for the children to wear within the role play area, we would be grateful if you could send them into school in a bag with your child’s name on.
