A huge thank you!

A huge thank you!

A huge thank you to everyone who visited our Book Fair this week and who got involved in celebrating  Roald Dahl’s Birthday on Wednesday by bringing a prop, a book or wearing an entire costume!  It has been lovely to see so many children excited about buying and looking at the books on sale.  The fair and ‘Dress up for Dahl Day’ has been a fantastic success in creating a buzz around books and promoting reading for pleasure, with over £800 worth of books having been sold throughout the week.  Your generosity and support has meant that the school will receive nearly £500 worth of free books for the school library!  Our school library will be open from next Friday lunchtime and our newly appointed librarians or ‘Word Warriors’ as we like to call them will be on hand to help out!  Congratulations as well to our five raffle winners, ( from Reception, Y1, Y4  and Y6)  who all received and cashed in a £5 gift voucher today.    It's only fair to...

Fabulous First week in Reception

The Reception children have had a fabulous week settling into school life meeting their year six buddies and making lots of new friends. They are off to a flying start writing their names and reciting their favourite rhymes as well as  learning some new ones. Everyone has really enjoyed having school lunch with most children settling into the routines well. This week the children have been challenged to learn 4 nursery rhymes – word perfect! Certificates will be given to children who complete the challenge. We will be doing lots of practice in school , and this will be a fantastic opportunity to develop their speaking and listening skills at home. Thank you so much for all your empty boxes and packaging, the children have really enjoyed using them to make models. Have a fabulous weekend see you on Monday.   It's only fair to...

Play guess the shape this weekend.

This week we have been very busy learning about 2d and 3d shape. In particular we have been learning to talk about corners, sides and faces when describing shapes. This weekend encourage your child to talk about the shapes they see in the environment and to use mathematical language to describe what they see. You could also ask them how to play ‘Guess the shape’ . The children have also been very busy writing questions for Jack and the Giant. The writing in Reception is developing and lots of children enjoy writing as part of their play. We also talked about how some children don’t have much food and have to walk a long way to get water. We are encouraging the children to consider the lives of others and to understand some people lives are very different from their own. Wishing you all a fantastic weekend. Regards Michelle Duckworth It's only fair to...

Spring has sprung

Spring has sprung the grass we planted has grown and the flowers in the garden are looking gorgeous. This week the children have really enjoyed drawings ‘observational drawing’ of the beautiful blossom tree outside our classroom. They will be displayed in the conservatory , shortly. Over the last couple of weeks we have been talking about ‘special places’ it would be lovely if you could talk about yours to your child and encourage them to talk about theirs. Thank you to all those parents who made comments on the Maths homework they have been very helpful. It was good to hear that children were using lots of different strategies to solve the problems. Have a fabulous weekend. Regards Michelle Duckworth   It's only fair to...

Jack and the Beanstalk

This week we have been reading Jack and the Beanstalk a traditional tale loved by all! Children have made character puppets  and have enjoyed retelling the story and writing about the main character Jack. It would be helpful if you could discuss the story with your child asking them to discuss what they know. One of our key questions in class at the moment is Who are the characters and what are they like? Next we are going to plant seeds and record their growth. Children have enjoyed looking at each others ‘then and now’ photographs and discussing how they have grown and  what changes have taken place. We are all looking forward to seeing the display on the wall – please pop in to take a look. It's only fair to...
