Y2’s visit to the Jewish Museum

Year 2 visited the Jewish Museum in Manchester and spent the morning looking and handling a range of different sacred artefacts. The children were able to experience what it would be like to be in a Synagogue and had lots of questions to ask our guide. Below is a gallery from the visit so that you can see what the children got up to! In the afternoon the children wrote an information text all about the museum. If you click here you can visit the official website of the museum.

Y2 Continent Enquiry

This half term we are going to be learning about the difference between a continent and a country. We will also focus on looking at Australia, thinking about the human and physical features and how they compare to the UK. Our new enquiry page is now available for you to start to learn about the continents and also do some research about Australia. I have put some of my own photographs of the Australian landscape on from when I spent a summer there a few years ago!

Wow!

We would like to say a huge thank you to all the visitors who came to support our 1 day pop up art gallery in the Millgate Centre. It was fantastic to see how proud all of the children were of their work and through our raffle we raised £305 for Bury Hospice. If you would like to find out more about our drawing enquiry, look at a picture gallery of how it was put together or read some of the lovely feedback we received, click here to view our “Could I be a still life artist” exhibition page. You can also get to the page by going to the curriculum tab on the main menu and going down to Art.

As a school we truly are proud of what all of our children achieved and it was a pleasure to share it with you in our exhibition.

Pirate Phonics app

Pirate Phonics 1: Kids Learn to Read is one of the many educational tools developed by Unit11 and it is packed with 41 phonic sounds spread across five islands. Learners will have to explore the islands and find the clues that will help them to find their treasure. The app is educational and will help preschoolers learn and develop their phonic skills and reinforce their phonic blends and sounds in reading. This is an ideal app for Reception and Year 1 children and there is a link on the app to the next pirate game with another set of 31 sounds.

Fruit, Frames and Fun

It has been another busy week in year 2! This week the children worked on the second part of their art work for our exhibition. This piece used pastels and the children had to learn about how to use them and different techniques to create tone. I was really impressed at the drawings that the children started to produce, as they had to focus on the interior of the fruit that they had chosen. Mrs Church, the artist who visited our class left us some pastel paper and we used this for our final drawing.

As you can see from the picture above, Miss Hackett modelled drawing the fruits on our visualiser, so that all of the children could watch her drawing skills and she could give pointers about how to use the pastels. Once all the work was completed, myself and Miss Hackett framed all 66 pieces, so that each child has a pure pencil drawing and a colourful pastel drawing together. We were both so impressed at the final outcome and we were able to see what every child had achieved. In two weeks, the children, myself and Miss Hackett have all developed our skills as still life artists and it has been really exciting seeing how confident year 2 have become at drawing.

The children have had lots of fun using the pastels and it has been a real pleasure to see all of their work framed and ready to display in our final exhibition at the Millgate Centre. Hopefully myself and Miss Hackett will see you down there and you will see for yourself how impressive the children’s work is. I hope you all have a good Easter break and I will keep you up to date with what are next enquiries will be for the Summer Term.
