Year 3 Ghana Enquiry

As part of our enquiry  ‘Would you like to live in Ghana?’, Year 3 have been researching Ghanaian children’s lifestyles. We have identified various similarities and some interesting differences between Ghanaian schools and English schools. Using this information, we have been experimenting with subheadings and paragraphs to group similar ideas. We have also been learning an interesting African song taken from ‘The Peace Child’. The children have worked hard learning the difficult lyrics and discussing the meaning of the song. I look forward to looking at your homework surrounding ‘What is the capital city of Ghana?’

Reception children keep fit!

This week in Reception, we have been talking about the importance of exercise and keeping fit.  We had a Zumba dance class in our PE session which the children enjoyed.  We are going to be talking about healthy foods and looking after our bodies in the coming week starting with a visit from the Oral Hygiene Team on Monday afternoon.

Keep watching the Reception web page for photos that will allow you to see some of the fabulous activities we enjoy in school. I will add a few each week.

Year 2 become historians!

Year 2 started their new enquiry today and turned into historians for the afternoon. They were given a pictorial source and in their pairs they had to answer a range of questions about the image, using what they could see and any information they might already know. I was really impressed at how all of the children were able to question and discuss what they could see. If you want to see the children in action, go to our class page and have a look at our gallery of pictures!

Happy New Year Year 2

I hope everyone has had a good rest over the Christmas holidays and feels ready to get started on our new enquiries! Our main enquiry will be history based, considering the question: Could I be famous for something? Our new learning page for this enquiry is now ready to use. If you go to the children tab and go onto Year 2 you should be able to see our learning page! In science we will be thinking all about leading a healthy lifestyle, so we will consider different types of exercise, look at how food plays a big part in how we stay healthy and also think about how we keep our minds healthy. Through our main enquiry we will be looking at the work of famous painters and we are going to focus on creating our own contemporary painting.

Reception New Year

Welcome back to a new term. I hope you have had a lovely break and are ready for the term ahead.
Our new topic is ‘The Baker’s Shop’. Our role play area has been transformed into Unsworth Bakery and the children will be encouraged to use a variety of media to make cakes, buns and other creations. Our focus is to develop the learning that takes place when children look at similarities and differences, patterns and change and we will be looking at what happens when we mix ingredients together. As the topic progresses, other areas will also become shops and we will be developing the children’s knowledge of money through number recognition and counting coins.
As you can see, a busy term already planned.
Looking forward to getting started
Miss Ashton 🙂
