Boy’s football quarter final: Greenhill 3-6 Unsworth

The Unsworth boy’s team played fantastically well today as a team. We took a team of 10 players to Greenhill; it was a tough decision to only select a starting 7.  This was the quarter final match, having previously defeated Holcombe Brook and Chesham. Unsworth got off to a strong start, passing the ball well and created lots of scoring opportunities. Unsworth took a deserved 3-0 lead into half time, as well as hitting the woodwork 3 times!  The second half followed suit as the team raced into a 6-1 lead. The whole squad contributed to a collective team effort although there were some excellent individual performances too. This was evident as there were 6 different scorers – a few brilliant strikes and team goals!  A lot of credit must go to Greenhill who didn’t give up and scored 2 late consolation goals. Final score Greenhill 3-6 Unsworth. We eagerly await the semi final draw! Congratulations once again to the team.  It's only fair to...

Greater Manchester School Games – 21st March

What a fantastic day! The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and the experience at sportscity, playing tag rugby at a superb venue.  The event started with an opening ceremony consisting of music, dancing and special guests… Olympic gold medalists! The children, along with nearly 2000 others representing a variety of sports, participated from the stands dancing and singing away. Hundreds of balloons were released and that signalled the start of the event. The rugby was the main event for us and the children all played well as a team against the very best schools in Greater Manchester. We won 1 (4-3), drew 1 (2-2) and lost 2 (0-2, 1-5) of our 12 minute group matches, braving cold conditions and high quality opponents who had obviously played rugby for a while.  For many of our children, tag rugby was a new experience this year and they have excelled. They are developing their skills as individuals and as a team, whilst also improving their tactical knowledge. We have some very talented athletes at Unsworth, who consistently demonstrated fair play and respect for others.  Hopefully, we will return again next year! It's only fair to...

Find a sports club!

Which sports clubs would you like to join?  This half term has seen a great number of children participating in lunchtime and after school clubs. These have been led by teaching staff, year 6 children and sports coaches, and have included: – tag rugby  – girl’s football  – boy’s football  – table tennis  – basketball  – netball  – cross country    Some of these children have successfully competed against other schools in most of these sports. At Unsworth, we aim to provide a sporting experience for all children and vary our clubs accordingly. Hopefully, every child will have participated in at least one club this year.  In the summer term, there will be some new clubs starting, as well as most of the existing ones continuing. These will be: – cricket – athletics – tennis  – judo  – rounders  – Yr R/1 – athletics (QFirst sports coach) – Y2/3 – multi skills (QFirst sports coach)   If you would like to join a club, please fill in a form when they get sent out. Cross country competition – event 1

Well done to all the children who participated in the first cross country meeting on Tuesday. The children braved the tough conditions and produced excellent performances. Unsworth had 4 athletes who achieved a top 20 place in a field of over 100 runners. A superb effort!  A special mention must go to the boys’ team who are currently leading the table out of 21 schools. A 2nd and a 6th place really helped the team effort! Every athlete has now got a personal target to beat – whether it be a time, a place or finishing the course without stopping.  Good luck to all the runners in their next meet!  It's only fair to...
