At Unsworth Primary School, Design and Technology (DT) plays a vital role in developing our pupils’ creativity, practical skills and confidence in problem-solving.
DT is embedded across the curriculum and brought to life through exciting, hands-on projects. Children learn a range of skills such as sewing, sawing and using joining techniques to design and build their own creations. They also explore simple mechanisms, including pneumatics, to understand how movement and function can be achieved in real-world designs.
A particular highlight of our DT provision is the termly food technology workshops, where pupils have the opportunity to prepare dishes like fresh pasta while learning essential life skills such as chopping, slicing and following recipes. These sessions also promote an understanding of nutrition, hygiene and kitchen safety. At Unsworth, we believe DT is not just about making – it’s about thinking, problem-solving and preparing children for life beyond the classroom.
