In accordance with the government initiative, all Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 school pupils in England are eligible for universal infant free school meals. This is to encourage a balanced diet from an early age and help children be as healthy as possible.
The cost of a school meal for KS2 children is £2.50 per day (£12.50 per week). Payments should be made via Arbor. More information is available from the school office.
If you are in receipt of certain benefits you may be entitled to free school meals for your child regardless of their age. From September 2026 more children will be eligible for free school meals. If your family receives Universal Credit, your child will be entitled to a free meal every school day as the current £7,400 household income cap is being removed.
What do I need to do?
If your child is already receiving free school meals, there is nothing you need to do. Bury Council will check your child’s eligibility ahead of their return to school in September 2026.

Applying is quick and easy and could mean that your child will receive a free, healthy meal every school day, saving up to £495 per year for each child on school lunches. It is well worth registering even if your child is in infants and already receives free school meals. This is because schools receive a ‘pupil premium’ payment for each eligible child which will be spent on resources to benefit your child’s education.
