Time Travel to the Victorian Classroom!
Year 1 took a magical step back in time and found themselves in a real Victorian classroom! The children were amazed to discover just how different school life was over 100 years ago.
As they entered the room, they were greeted by rows of wooden desks, with boys and girls sitting separately, no mixing allowed! Instead of using pencils and paper, the children wrote carefully on slate boards with chalk, just like Victorian pupils once did.
The classroom echoed with the sound of chanting as the children joined in with arithmetic drills and recited their lessons aloud. Some practiced needlework, while others tried their hand at woodwork skills that were once part of everyday learning.
But not everything was fun and games. The children learned about the strict rules of the time. Writing with your left hand? That could earn you a stern look or even the dreaded dunce’s hat! And if you worked too slowly, you might find yourself wearing it in the corner as a punishment.
Despite the strictness, Year 1 had a fantastic time exploring the past. It was a fascinating way to understand how much school has changed and how lucky we are today!
