Pupils at Unsworth Primary School are enjoying a brand-new library after it was officially opened last week.
The opening was marked by a special visit from school governor and trustee, Janet Adams, who officially opened the library and spent time speaking with pupils about their favourite books and why reading is important to them.
The project was made possible thanks to the tireless efforts of the PTA, who raised funds over a 12-month period through a range of events including summer fairs, school discos, non-uniform days, Christmas markets and Easter bingo events. Their fundraising efforts, combined with the contribution of a parent donor, have transformed the vision of a new library into reality.
As part of the library’s launch, a group of year 6 pupils have been appointed as school librarians. The group will help to look after the library, organise resources and promote reading to the wider school. Every class will have the opportunity to visit the library each week as part of the school’s ongoing commitment to reading.

The amount of time, effort and enthusiasm that has gone into fundraising over the last year has been remarkable.
“At Unsworth, encouraging a love of reading is a real priority. Reading opens doors, sparks imagination and supports learning across every area of the curriculum. Our new library is a fantastic addition to the school and we know it will be enjoyed by pupils for many years to come.”
The library is already proving popular with pupils, who are excited to explore the new collection of books and make full use of the welcoming space.
