Oak experiences

Our school forms part of Oak Learning Partnership, a multi academy trust that has a number of schools in Bury and Blackburn with Darwen. Being part of the trust affords us access to many different opportunities, Oak Experiences being one of them.

We want pupils who leave our school to leave with memories that stay with them and help shape them into who they are. We believe pupils should have moments of awe, inspiration and joy, which are character building and create positivity in our communities. We want pupils to have those one off experiences that they talk about forever, the ‘I’ll never forget when we...’ moments. Oak Experiences allow us to do this through funding that we use to plan and organise activities and experiences for our pupils.  We do this through our '50 things to do at Unsworth' passport, which can be viewed below.

Enriching education through experience

At Unsworth Primary School, we are passionate about providing our pupils with a rich and varied education that extends beyond the classroom. Our ‘50 things to do at Unsworth’ is a cornerstone of this vision, offering children a wide range of life experiences that help them grow in confidence, curiosity and independence. From the Year 6 residential in a castle, camping on the school field and singing around a campfire, to visiting museums, theatres and places of worship, each activity is carefully chosen to broaden horizons and spark new interests. Children have met a real-life explorer and listened to his thrilling adventures at the South Pole and held exotic creatures from all over the world. Our youngest children have learnt to ride bikes for the first time and our older ones have learnt about riding safely around the roads and used public transport for the first time - all experiences that not only create lasting memories but also build essential life skills.

These opportunities have had a profound impact on our pupils. Many children have discovered new passions, overcome fears and developed a stronger sense of self-belief. Taking part in sports competitions has nurtured teamwork and resilience, while fundraising for charity has helped foster empathy and a sense of social responsibility and an appreciation for our local community. ‘50 things to do at Unsworth’ supports our commitment to a broad and balanced curriculum, ensuring that every child has the chance to thrive in different ways. We are incredibly grateful to the Oak Learning Partnership for their generous support in helping to fund this  - their financial contribution plays a vital role in making these enriching experiences possible for all our children.
