Time Travel to the Victorian Classroom! Year 1 took a magical step back in time and found themselves in a real Victorian classroom! The children were amazed to discover just how different school life was over 100 years ago. As they entered the room, they were greeted by rows of wooden desks, with boys and girls sitting separately, no mixing allowed! Food tech classes

At Unsworth Primary School, Design and Technology (DT) plays a vital role in developing our pupils’ creativity, practical skills and confidence in problem-solving. DT is embedded across the curriculum and brought to life through exciting, hands-on projects. Children learn a range of skills such as sewing, sawing and using joining techniques to design and build their own creations. They also explore simple mechanisms, including pneumatics, to understand how movement and function can be achieved in real-world designs. Forest school fun

On Wednesday 2 July the LinC took part in a fabulous forest school session. The children immersed themselves in a variety of hands-on, nature-inspired activities. They crafted log necklaces and embarked on an exciting bug hunt, using magnifying glasses to discover the tiny creatures hidden beneath logs and leaves. Creativity flowed as they painted with natural materials – using leaves, sticks and other natural materials to print patterns and textures onto paper. Throughout the afternoon, the children enjoyed exploring the outdoor area freely, as well as weaving willow onto our garden fence.

Year 5 Pupils Share Their Leadership Journey in Bright Leaders Podcast As part of the Bright Leaders Programme, our Year 5 pupils have been exploring what it means to be a leader – developing key skills such as responsibility, self-awareness and positive decision-making. A highlight of their journey was recording a special podcast with their leadership coach, Laura. In the episode, the children reflected on their personal growth, discussed how they take responsibility for their actions and shared what leadership looks like in their everyday lives.

Sports day fun

On 20 May we celebrated our much-loved annual Sports Day – and what a fantastic day it was! The sun shone brightly as children from across the school took part in a wide range of fun and energetic activities. Their enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship were truly inspiring. We were also delighted to be joined by PE students from Philips High School, who supported each event with energy and encouragement. Their help made the day run smoothly and added a wonderful sense of community to the occasion.

From 19 May, our children enjoyed an unforgettable ‘Sports and Wellbeing Week’ packed with exciting activities and new experiences – all generously funded by our trust, Oak Learning Partnership, as part of the Oak Experiences. The week was a true celebration of health, movement and joy, offering something for everyone. Pupils danced their hearts out in a high-energy workshop with Freak Dance, found calm and focus during a yoga session and tackled a thrilling climbing wall challenge. Best buddies

Buddies for life One of the most cherished traditions at our school is the special buddy relationship between our Year 6 and Reception children. This connection begins even before the youngest pupils start school, with our Year 6s writing heartfelt welcome letters to their new buddies.
